All Clad 4.5 quart steamer and 5 quart pot are constructed of 18/10 heavy gauge stainless steel, where the 18 and 10 numbers refer to content of chromium and nickel in steel. Both are rust, stain and corrosion resistant metals. Nickel gives to stainless steel steamer and pot beautiful silver shine. It looks like new and shiny even after many years of heavy use.

The pot is heavier than steamer insert due to 3 ply thick encapsulated base that makes pot suitable to cook soups, stews, sauces and other dishes. Encapsulated base provides even heat distribution.
